Hand Me Down Dobes, Inc. is the oldest and largest Doberman rescue in Ohio, placing over 2,000 Dobermans into safe and loving homes since 1994. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit all-volunteer organization committed to saving homeless Dobes in Ohio and then finding the best home for that particular dog. We do not turn away a Dobe in need due to a medical condition or advanced age. We believe EVERY Dobe deserves a forever home and so we take dogs that other rescues can not or will not take. We also work to educate the public about the Doberman breed as well as responsible, humane pet care which includes spaying and neutering, training, and how to choose a pet to fit your particular lifestyle. HMDD is proudly affiliated with the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and we abide by their code of ethics as a rescue.
Our Dobermans come from animal shelters, humane societies and owner surrenders. Unfortunate family circumstances such as divorce, illness or death are common reasons dogs become homeless. Relocation and landlord problems can also contribute to an owners inability to keep their pet. Less frequent are the Dobermans that come to us from cruel and abusive environments or from disreputable breeders such as puppy mills.
Aware of the emotional trauma a dog experiences when losing his or her home, we place all of our rescues into caring foster homes. We provide all necessary veterinary care and the time needed for these dogs to physically and emotionally heal. At any given time we have 10 to 20 Dobermans awaiting the loving, forever home they deserve. Will it be yours?
