We are happy to have you begin our process to adopt your new best friend from us!
Are you familiar with the Doberman or previously owned one? If so, wonderful! If not, please learn about this amazing breed on our Is a Dobe for You? page.
Although some believe “a rescue is a rescue”, this generalization is simply not true. Rescue organizations are not all the same and it is important that you have peace of mind throughout the adoption process as well as support whenever needed after adoption. Please visit our About Us section to learn more about us and who we are.
Our Adoption Information page provides you with important details that YOU NEED TO KNOW before adopting from us. Visit our Adoption Information page before proceeding. Please take a moment to download and read the Adoption Agreement you will be expected to sign when you adopt from us. Now we’re ready to begin!
1. APPLICATION: We must receive a fully completed application from you in order for the adoption process to move forward.
If you do not hear from us confirming that we have received your application within 3 days of sending, please call us at 614-470-2851.
We will use your application to get a general idea of what characteristics you are looking for in a pet. We will also contact your veterinarian for a reference and ensure your current and/or previous pets are receiving the Basic Standard of Veterinary Care which includes being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and on appropriate preventatives.
2. HOME VISIT: Once your application is provisionally approved, an HMDD volunteer in your area will contact you to schedule a home visit. We perform home visits for all prospective adopters. This visit allows us to get to know you and the environment in which the dog will live. It helps us better determine which dog is the best match for your household and lifestyle. Once your home visit has been completed, we will contact you in approximately 3 to 5 days. If you do not hear from us, please call us at 614-470-2851.
Once approved to adopt from us, we will retain your application for 6 months. We strongly encourage you to check our website regularly and plan to attend our monthly adoption event in Columbus, even if it appears that we do not currently have a dog that is a good match for you. We try to keep our dog listings as up-to-date as possible, but occasionally adoptable dogs will be at our event that are not posted.
Our adoption fee for purebred pups 12 months and younger is $450, purebred dogs between 1 and 8 years old are $350, and sweet and loving purebred seniors 9 years and older are $250. A $15 service fee will be added if paying by credit card.
